Pentecost Reflection & Song

At the start of Acts we see the Apostles do the very first prayer week as they waited for the Holy Spirit to come at Pentecost.

In the week leading up to Pentecost, prayer week becomes a time to simply wait on God and pray that very simple prayer: ‘Come Holy Spirit’. So I encourage you, as the Apostles did 2000 years ago, to be expectant for God to move, and wait for the Holy Spirit to come. Hold out you hands as if you were receiving a gift, pray ‘come Holy Spirit’ and be expectant for God to speak to you.

You may get a picture, word, or scripture come to mind, but just enjoy waiting with God, and receive all that he has for you. You may also wish use this brilliant scripture passage from Acts 1 and 2, and the song Spirit of God, to help re-live this amazing event.

From Acts 1 & 2

Then after Jesus had ascended into heaven, the apostles returned to Jerusalem. When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying and were constantly united in prayer.

On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
As was spoken by the prophet Joel,

‘In the last days,’ God says,
‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
I will pour out my Spirit
even on my servants—men and women alike—
    and they will prophesy.
And I will cause wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below—
blood and fire and clouds of smoke.
The sun will become dark,
and the moon will turn blood red
before that great and glorious day of the LORD arrives.
But everyone who calls on the name of the LORD
    will be saved.’
